Lynne Chronister was Vice President for Research and Economic Development at the University of South Alabama from 2012 to 2024. From 2007 until 2012, she served as the Assistant Vice Provost for Research at the University of Washington. Previously, Lynne was with University of California, Davis, the University of Utah, Mississippi State University and the University of South Alabama.
Ms. Chronister served as Chair of the Council on Research at the Association of Public and Land grant Universities in 2022/24. She also served as President of the Society of Research Administrators, International in 1999. Including among her professional accomplishments was co-editing and writing Research Administration and Management on building and managing university research administration.
Dr. M. Cynthia Logsdon, Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation, leads strategic efforts to attract, nurture, and retain world-class research, scholarship, and creative talent for the University of Louisville. Logsdon has spearheaded a number of initiatives to further these goals, including the launch of new research tools and infrastructure; building a centralized post-doctoral researcher support office from the ground up; and creating professional development programs, such as the Ascending Star Fellows, which provide mentorship and connections to high-performing, mid-career faculty. These efforts underpin UofL’s research enterprise by fostering growth and collaboration, with the goal of driving work that shifts paradigms and saves and improves lives.
An enthusiastic research executive leader, an internationally known PhD Nurse Scientist, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Dr. Logsdon served as Chair of its Maternal and Infant Expert Panel. Appointed by their Board, she has also served as Co-Chair of the Research Advisory Panel of the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses and as the Co-chair of the Nursing Research Council for Catholic Health Initiatives, facilitating research for the 200 organizations making up this consortium. With a long-standing interest in clinical and interdisciplinary research, her international reputation is highlighted by invitations to review grants in Canada, Australia, England, and Ireland. A prolific author, D. Logsdon served for 5 years as the editor of the international nursing journal, Journal of Advanced Nursing. Work experience includes over a decade of research administrative oversight in academic hospitals and universities. She is widely known for program development/evaluation and mentoring to support successful international researchers across all levels. Dr. Logsdon is a member of APLU Council on Research, Cohort 5 Research Leader Fellows.
Dr. Kathy H. Thompson is a consultant at Insite Advisors and the Founding Director of the Center for Innovation in Postsecondary Education (CIPE) at the University of South Alabama, where she also serves as a faculty member in the College of Education and Professional Studies. Through CIPE, she partners with two- and four-year postsecondary institutions to improve research quality, develop grants, and oversee grant activities.
Dr. Thompson is the Principal Investigator on several high-impact projects, including a five-year NSF grant aimed at increasing STEM participation with a budget of $2.7 million, a Lumina Foundation initiative that supports adult learners in North Carolina for $1.5 million, and an ECMC Foundation storytelling project that highlights case studies on eight community colleges in Alabama.
Previously, she was a Principal Investigator at the Gates Foundation (2016–2022), leading institutional transformation efforts at six HBCUs as part of the Frontier Set project.
Dr. Thompson earned a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MPA from Auburn University, and a B.S. in Social Work from the University of Alabama.
